1835 Ionian Islands New Obol Coin

Issued during the reign of William IV. 

On the front is the winged lion of Saint Marcus holding the Gospel with 7 lances protruding from it (Symbolising the seven Ionian Islands) and the words Ionikon Kpatoe along with 1835 

On the obverse side a seated Britannia. 

This group of islands to the west of Greece were ruled by the British from 1809 until 1862 when Britain transferred ownership to Greece.
