US Navy Occupation Service Medal

The US Navy Occupation Service Medal is a decoration of the United States Navy which was issued to Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard personnel who participated in the European and Asian occupation forces following the close of the World War II. The decoration was also bestowed to personnel who performed duty in West Berlin between 1945 and 1990. The Navy Occupation Service Medal was presented as a medal with two service clasps, those being the "Europe" and "Asia" clasps. The following geographical duty areas, and time frames of eligibility, qualified a service member to receive the Navy Occupation Service Medal with Europe clasp. Italy (November 8 1945 to December 15 1947) Trieste (May 8 1945 to October 25 1954) Germany (May 8 1945 to May 5 1955) Austria (May 8 1945 to October 25 1955) West Berlin (May 8 1945 to October 3, 1990) For those service members who performed military duty during the Berlin Airlift, the Airlift Device is authorized as a device to the Navy Occupation Service Medal. The Asia clasp was authorized for any service performed in the Asiatic-Pacific area between the dates of September 2 1945 and April 27 1952. This included service in Korea; however those service members who had received the Korean Service Medal could not be awarded both the Occupation Medal and Korean Service Medal for the same period of service.
